Cuil The Google Killer? I Dont Think So.

Okay so I think the tinfoil hats have been put on again and the conspiracy and corporate theorists are going nuts. What on gods green earth has people thinking that cuil is going to the google killer. I mean come on are you serious? after one day you can honestly tell me that cuil will take out google. Where is the evidence for this idiotic theory? Well let me give you my educated guess. I DONT HAVE ONE.

WHY?

Because it is way to early to tell. In all honesty from what I have seen of cuil it should not have even been released yet. It is still way under developed, it runs slow as hell and the design is less than pleasing. So as it stands right now, I would say I dont see it happening “right now”. Google has over 15 years experience a gazillion dollars and most importantly a very strong branded name. I mean come on we dont even say ‘im going to search for something’, we say ‘Im going to google that’. I definately dont think I will be saying ‘Im going to cuil that anytime soon’. I know that everyone gets very excited when they see someone going for the crown. Its human nature. But come on lets start small then work our way up to thinking they can beat out google. Even a great boxer has to work his way up to the champ and like any other thing in life I will have to see them beat out some of the lower ranking search engines before they can think about challenging google.

oh, by the way alexa rank for cuil yesterday was as follows:

and google:

I think cuil has just a little ways to go.

Have you read or heard much from anyone claiming Cuil would take share from Google? I’ve not seen any claims like that at all. Prior to their launch there was some buzz, but they are taking a HUGE beating for their launch on Monday (the 28th) and I’ve not seen a single good thing about them these past two days since then.

…Rightfully so too. I think they’ve put too much stock in having a “big index” rather than one that is up to date, accurate and fronted by a good relevant algorithm. I can appreciate the challenge they face, but I have no idea why they would launch with such a clearly inferior product. Silly. Dumb, really. You only get one shot for PR for new product introductions, and they’ve fallen hard.

Funny note - as of earlier today they don’t even rank for their brand name “cuil” on the first page in their own search engine!

Very good points made Jon. I really believe that it was way to soon for cuil to launch, but hey to each his own. Actually if you google ‘google killer’, articles for cuil are all over the first page. I share the same views as you and I believe they have really shot themselves in the foot by doing this.

    thanks for your insight..
