Blog Explosion Critique

For those that are unaware of Blog Explosion, it is a social community/portal that drives blog traffic to your blog. I’ll talk about how this community accomplishes the task(hint: It secures your blog will get exposure). Also, about Graphic SEO’s own experience using Blog Explosion. If your tasked with getting people to your blog this post is recommended.

BlogExplosion.com as stated before is more or less a community of fellow bloggers. They come from all walks of life from entertainment , to politics & everything between. It has directories so your blog can appropriately be displayed with many other blogs in the same genre. Advertisement to other people that use this community is also available & helps drive people to your blog. The community has such features as a ’shout box’(micro blogging) which is more or less a mini chat viewed by all people visiting blog explosion. Best of all its a free service & anyone can use it.

Free?

One, thing you may be asking yourself now is.. Free? Well, sorta. Free as in, you will be spending time on their site. You will generate people to your blog. Both go hand in hand. The more time you spend viewing others blogs, reading them(its quit enjoyable), commenting & building a web-ring of old. People leave comments on your blogs & you can comment on others. Converse on Blog Explosion on ways of improving traffic to your blog, even how to better monetize one’s site while talking with others whom are doing the same to their blogs. Like, I said.. Its all done through Blog Explosion. They generate traffic to your site, because they give incentives to view others blogs.. Viewing others blogs is how you generate the ability to advertise in some fashion to others in the community or send traffic directly to your blog.

How Blog Explosion generates traffic to your site

Well, this is the catch. What you are basically doing while viewing others blogs is earning credits, which you spend on sending traffic directly to your blog, or advertise with such things like banner ads, text links inside other blogs. What happens is you click a link to view others blogs, blog explosion in turn basically turns into a proxy for your web browser. They will direct you to blogs, you get to read them over maybe, you like the blog you read it.. Enjoy it, hate it, express it. At any rate the banner if you will, has a captcha on it. You have to pass the test & view another blog. The banner also has other links & banner ads being displayed from other bloggers(1credit = 32 banner placements). As you can see it is a pretty good way of ensuring traffic to your blog & building a community

Criticism for Blog Explosion

As you can see it is a nifty way to drive traffic to your site. It does actually work to some degree. My only concern with Blog Explosion is around the king ping of how things get done: the browser window. Now, Blog Explosion may say I have sent, from them, ten people to my site. When I look to verify that though Google Analytics or Feed Burner I’m not really noticing two important things. First point I’m not noticing is if it is in fact a new user to the blog. This is some what big for me. Yes, I expect traffic to be thrown my way, the difficulty is seeing what my demographics truly are. If I’ve noticed a increase from blog explosion & their some kind of data to be drawn & correlations can be made (IE geographical area, a particular writing style) I would make the necessary changes to appease my readers. Further more, the stats that are reported from one source (Blog Explosion) seem to be a bit more than that of Feed burner. I would love to see a better way of them saying, hey blog explosions was here X amount of times & a break down of time on the blog. That would be great.

Conclusion

I must say over all with such a short evaluation time of the service I’m impressed to a degree. It has proven to be useful & it does provide a significant source of traffic if you work the system. That being said its no worse then browsing digg on your lunch break, this just seems to pay off a little bit more of those blogs that don’t receive 2,000 hits a day. I would have to recommend this site to anyone in the SEO/SEM community looking to better their clients blog. Because in the end you are not paying a monetary amount of money for exposure, rather you are doing something we all enjoy anyway. That enjoyment is simple reading.

@Jon There has been no change in my opinion on this. Adam origianally wrote this post and he also was the one who signed us up for blogexplosion. I really feel that he made a wise decision in signing us up because we have honestly seen a consistent stream of traffic from their site.

I have found that with a little bit of work (spending time looking at other’s blog, etc) you WILL get traffic. I use FeedJit and it will tell me where someone came from on my blog. I have noticed quite a significant amount from Blog Explosion.. more than any other site I have used or by “pinging”. In addition you can find other bloggers out there from this site.. even the “low man on the totem pole”. I think it is a good resource and an interesting way to get traffic!
